Club meeting on Monday night?

MONDAY NIGHT POLO SUMMIT EXTRAVAGANZA!
8pm @ bike polo world headquarters (aka Grant & Dodds)

(1) Bring snacks and juice.
(2) Playing polo after at the tennis courts behind Forest/across from Willkie.

- - - - - - -

Let's have a club meeting on Monday night before or in lieu of polo. We have more than a few things to talk about and plan out. I went to pickup tonight (at 10:45) and the 4 people who actually showed up had already left.... we need a plan for since me and the polotruck are out of commission for a while. Also who's going to COMO, et cetera. And springtime friendlies need ironed out.

Please comment and state your preferences!!!

When? Is monday night ok? What time?

Play polo after wards or just make it a planning night?

Where? Upland? My place? Little Tibet on 4th st??

What other topics/issues need to be discussed?

Is this unnecessary and we should just play polo instead?

Wars come and go but my soldiers stay eternal.

Last night Shadowalker, our most dedicated player, broke his shooting wrist. His bike slipped out from under him on an icy spot. The doctors are giving him two months. There will be a candlelight vigil in front of his house Thursday before polo. BYOC. Visit polo-velo-bloomington and show your love. More info to come.
"do not drink any alcohol."

We take care of our own.
Well Lembo and Ashley did most of the care taking.
.Shadowalker is having surgery tomorrow at noon so give him a call and let him know his bike sucks. God speed on your recovery.

Is spring here yet?

Weather looks decent for tonight. Polo at the tennis courts behind Wright. 9pm-1am.

If for some reason the weather turns and it starts raining cats and dogs we'll have a club meeting at my house (grant & dodds) during the same time period...but I'd much rather play polo. Even if it starts sprinkling we can still practice in the Jordan Ave parking garage.

Be there or b^2.

Roll Call

Still playing Tonight at the Garage
9pm

Are you taking bike polo serious enough?

After a quick look at the weather, I'm going to call
Garage Today
unless things change and its not that bad.
9pm
Be There, Be Quiet

Lets get serious. I want us all to keep getting better and be able to compete at tournaments. Also, the better we are, the faster the new players will get better. There was a recent discussion on leagueofbikepolo about which city has the most A players and I don't think we have any, yet.

Here are some quick things I think we should work on.

  • Communication- I want you to talk to your teammates!  Let them know where you are, where defenders are, whats happening, what they should do if they're stuck. Yell! If your teammate does something good, let them know! Tap up after a goal. Support your team.
  • Defense- As far as man to man goes, GET PHYSICAL. Let go of the handlebar and get your mallet on the ground and all up in your opponents shit. Bend, turn, reach, push, do whatever to get that ball away. For off ball defense like zones and placement I dont really know. I try to stay between the ball and goal as best as I can but also be able to make a play on the ball. ie if the ball is moving across the court, be facing the way the ball is going even if your just posted up in the center. Again, COMMUNICATION.
  • Ball handling- As skill increases, so will the speed of the game but still, no need to rush. Control the ball, take a look around and see what you can do. Try to not clear the ball. Blindly hitting the ball down the court can lead to easy goals for the other team.
  • Physical Training- No more leisurely rides to and from pick up night. I want everyone to get tucked and sprint the whole way there with mallet in hand. BALLS OUT. SPIN YR SHIT. Once you get to the court, do 20 push ups, 20 bike squats, 20 bike bench presses and 20 mallet pick ups. You get the idea...
  • Offense- Later. SHOOT HARD SHOOT MORE. ALL YOU FREEWHEELERS, GET YOUR REACH ON.
We can get more in-depth at the meeting or at pick up but if I left something out, you agree, you disagree, you hate me, you wanna quit hardcourt for grass, you think shadowalker is sexy, let it be known in the comments.

Is anyone free on Tuesday for a meeting?

Also as Shadowalker said in the previous post, April 3rd in Lexington, KY will be the first  tournament for Bloomington Bike Polo as a whole. Clear your schedules!

Other important Dates
May 22-23 8th Midwest Championships Minneapolis, MN
July 16-18 North American Polo Championships Madison, WI

Planning for springtime friendlies

Let's get down to brass tacks. We're shooting for friendlies to happen during Little 500 weekend- so pickup on Friday night, friendly-pickup-minitourney all day Saturday, huge party Saturday night, and then (possibly) attend the ladies' lil'5 on Sunday if anyone is interested.

The major things to be organized are courts, housing, food, and the party. Everyone will need to help out with everything, but it'd be helpful if we broke up into little committees. None of this is set in stone, but speak up and let everyone know what you can help out with...

Food: Ashley, et al.
Housing: Rinzin (coordinator/point of contact), everyone who has a couch.
Courts: Zachary, Jake and/or Lembo?
Party: Evan, Evan, and Evan.

Potential invitees: Indianapolis, Louisville, Lexington, Cincinnati, Ann Arbor... St.Louis and COMO possibly? We've estimated numbers at about 36. That's 4 btown teams + 8 out of towners. Seems like a manageable amount. Consider this a try run for a potential tournament.

Transportation shouldn't be an issue since no one will be flying in and we all ride bikes. Also, Ashley and I have also been talking about potential fundraisers; one of which might occur the week before these friendlies to get/keep some inertia going. If anyone has ideas for fund-raising of any sort then take some initiative and start planning that shit!!!

-Zachary

PS - April 3rd will be the Kentucky friendlies happening in Lexington. This should be a laid back event with lots of quality players. Also a good time to make sure our southern brothers & sisters know about the Indiana friendlies ;)

Bloomington Bike Polo Giveaway

ASHLEY BAYER WON! LETS HOPE SHE FINALLY GETS A REAL POLO BIKE
Bikesmiths has donated a rear 700c 36hole wheel to Bloomington Bike Polo. There is an abundance of front wheels but rarely can you find a good rear. So heres your chance to upgrade or finish that polo bike you have sitting around that has been keeping you from playing polo. Fixed or free, however you want it. Comes with a 17t cog and locking, but you can always just throw a freewheel on instead. (I'd reccommended a freewheel just because the other side got stripped pretty badly riding fixed.) I'll throw a tube and tire on there and pump it up so its ready to go when you win. Hopefully someone needs this wheel.
My only request is that this wheel be used specfically for bike polo.

Tomorrow night at polo we will put all the names into a helmet and draw the winner.

How to Win
1. Post in the comments that you want this wheel
2. Come to bike polo Thursday and bring all your friends.
3. Call Zach Shadowalker

I already tell everyone this but,
GO TO BIKESMITHS FER ALL YR NEEDZZ

Defense!

Thats a siiick wreck, reminds me of Edwin but way more epic.
Defense is just as important as offense, if not more.

See you all Thursday.
